About
‘That We Belong’ is a photography project curated by Wendy JB Ball
About me
I am a child of the Universe.
Each one of us is.
You are my people
and we belong here.
I am because we are.
I was born into the family of Sheyne, Hilda, Barbara, Roger, Jack and Brian, surrounded by a rich tapestry of kinfolk and friends.
Growing up in South Africa, I ‘came of age’ during the portent and potent years when people – both at home and abroad – were working to dismantle apartheid.
I am humbled and shaped by this heritage.
After school I pursued a dream to study graphic and information design. As part of this, I was introduced to photography – learning my craft on a Nikon FE2 camera, a much treasured gift from my parents. And so began a love affair with noticing and capturing what light shapes and shows.
Like doodles and cups of tea, taking photographs is part of my everyday – and hand portraits have become a particular fascination and treasure.
I am also a companion to organisations and networks that are working to improve how we live. I support these groups in their efforts to build healthy partnerships, shape congruent internal cultures and collaborate more effectively. I call this work lovefare.
I live in Scotland where I swim in cold seas, fly kites in the wind and bask in the sun when it shines.
